Weekly Meal Plan #81

My highlight from this week was making Chicken Tetrazzini. And not necessarily because everyone loved it, because they didn’t. I had been in the mood for chicken tetrazzini for months. I hadn’t been making it precisely because I knew that everyone wouldn’t love it. But I finally decided that it was worth it to just have a different kind of meal. I did cave a little bit and used half of the box of pasta to mix with the white sauce of chicken and mushrooms to bake and left the other half of the pasta plain. We told our kids that we wanted them to try a bite of the chicken tetrazzini as planned first, and then they were allowed to have plain pasta if they wanted. My husband let our son in on a little secret and pointed to the pile of mushrooms he had made on the side of his plate: “I don’t like mushrooms either, but I still tried them first.” It’s okay to let kids not like certain foods, but it’s also good to remind them to try them before just writing them off. Also, if I only cater to what I think they will like, I might not get to eat some of my favorite meals–like chicken tetrazzini!
