I scream. You scream. I mean, come on, everyone loves ice cream, right? But an ice cream CAKE? Now all of a sudden you have a party! We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate our 100th Post!
Instead of heading out to Dairy Queen, build the ice cream cake yourself! All you need is a crust and one or two flavors of ice cream. If you want a topping, go for it! It’s your cake.
Step 1: Assemble your crust.
Try one of these crusts:
Put it in a springform pan. If making one ice cream cake for a party or gathering, use an 8- or 9-inch springform pan. I also have 4-inch mini springform pans that only holds about 1 1/2 cups of ice cream for a dessert for two. Okay let’s be serious–individual ice cream cake! Another option is to make several mini ice cream cakes with different crusts or toppings, cut them into quarters, and let people pick their favorites!
Step 2: Layer your ice cream.
If you are using store-bought ice cream, let it soften out of the freezer for a little while until it can be easily spread in the pan. If you want to make your own ice cream, it avoids the de-frost/re-frost process required of the store-bought ice cream. When the homemade ice cream is first made it is already the consistency of soft serve.
Try one of these ice creams:
If you want to have multiple layers of ice cream, put the first layer in the freezer for at least an hour before adding the next hour.
Step 3: Add a topping (optional)
Crumble some cookies, add some sprinkles, drizzle a chocolate glaze, or go full cake mode and finish it off with some frosting.
